What Does a Pool Inspector Check?
A pool inspector starts with a visual inspection of the entire swimming pool area. This includes the pool structure, pool deck, and surrounding features. The inspector looks for cracks, leaks, uneven surfaces, or signs of deterioration in the pool walls, floors, tiling, coping, and decking.
Safety is a top priority in any pool inspection. The inspector ensures that all required safety features—such as fencing, gates, pool covers, anti-drowning systems, and alarms—meet local safety codes. They’ll check that gates are self-closing and self-latching, pool covers are compliant and in good condition, and all required signage is visible. The pool’s electrical system is also checked for proper grounding, GFCI protection, and safe wiring to prevent accidents.
The pool’s mechanical components are next. The inspector checks the pool pump, filter, heater, skimmer, blowers, lights, and any automated systems. They’ll make sure each piece of pool equipment is in good working order, free from leaks, corrosion, or faulty wiring. Proper operation of the filtration and circulation system is critical for water quality and swimmer safety. If the pool has a saltwater system or advanced purification features, these are tested for functionality and condition as well.
